Avocet and Shellduck

Very aggressive Avocet picks on a Shellduck, well thats the way it was photographed, but have I photographed a totally new cross breed two thirds Avocet and one third shellduck?

End of Road Kill Saga

This final leap was about two and a half feet after which it only had to scurry a short distance to cover, and obscurity, I dashed out of my camper hoping perhaps it would make another appearance , it never did, but I could hear the stoat having trouble dragging its quarry through the dense undergrowth, but after a couple of minutes all went silent.
End of saga...

Road Kill Saga

The final push

13 Sept 2008

Road Kill Saga.

The Stoat finally came up with the answer and surmounting its mobility problem by a series of leaps and bounds, it must have had its lair somewhere to the left of the road, but considered the prize worth the exposure.

Road Kill Saga

The Stoat was a little skittish and took cover several times but always returned to the quarry.

Road Kill Saga

By this time the carcass was in the middle of the road, and proposed a bit of a problem as the stoat had trouble walking.

Corn Bunting

On a post at Elmley.

Stoat and road kill

This is the first of a series I will publish the quality is a bit down as this was shot through the camper screen had I got out he would have made an exit at this point he or she is pondering the question, how do I get it home? He or She does but you'll have to wait for the next pic, not to long.

Avocet Family

I kept my eye on the progress of this pair the prior shots are the inception the eggs and in this shot reared successfully two young.

This cheeky chappie is wearing a very wry smile you almost get the feeling that he knows something that we don't....

Seal

Common I think, and had been basking on the sands off Margate until the tide upset things.

Cormorant

At RSPB Elmley not that much of a common sight.

Oyster Catcher

This bird was taken at RSPB Elmley from Wellmarsh Hide and is seen defending the nest and eggs, that had the interest of an Avocet, the outcome saw the Avocet making a hasty retreat and then picked on a Ringed Plover.

Sunset at Harty

This was taken from the Raptor Viewpoint recently.

Posing Greylag

This regal looking bird cuts a very classic pose and I am sure he knew it, he also won me second place in a competition.

Oyster Catcher

I have never seen this behaviour exhibited in my photograph depicting an Oyster Catcher swimming, have any other birders witnessed this happening?
Taken at Leysdown

Oyster Catcher

This bird was resting, the tide was flooding, and along came a jet-ski and rather unceremoniously knocked the poor bird off its perch.
Again at Leysdown.

This bird I believe to be juvenile.

Egret

An Egret that thought a visit to Leysdown would be a nice day out, it even took itself for a leisurly saunter on the beach

Hare at Harty

A nice example of a female Hare crossing the road across the fleet at the raptor viewpoint, she was disturbed by the silage cutters and and the transporters.

A Sore Thumb Pheasant

This bird is not really equipped to live in the country, taken very close to Harty Church, this was last year, I wonder if this bird was in the sights of 12 gauge shotgun whether or not the hunter would pull the trigger, what do you think?

Stoat with Prey

I managed this shot through the windscreen of my old camper, along with about six other shots which I will publish.
These were taken by chance at Harty, about 100 yds from the Ferry Inn I do not think that this kill was attributed to the stoat but was perhaps his reward after a road kill, the corpse looks to be a rabbit but not sure.
